Year of Serving
This academic year is designated as ‘Called to Serve’ within the Trust. Over this academic year, we will encourage a range of events and programmes of service at St Bernadette’s and this mission will be replicated across the whole Nicholas Postgate Trust.
Jesus sets us the example of service in many ways throughout the New Testament. Washing feet, a service performed by slaves was used by Jesus to give us an example of how we have to serve one another.
The ‘Called to Serve’ initiative was launched in our whole school collective worship in late November 2018. We discussed ‘How can we serve others?’ and ‘What do we do already in school which could be seen as serving?’ We promised to continue to do these acts of service and think of further ways so we can ensure our acts of kindness/serving can make a positive impact on the world.
We used the period of Advent to make begin our acts of service and reflected on this time to consider members of our society who are less fortunate and equally give thanks to those who have assisted us over the previous 12 months.
This year, St Bernadette’s and all schools within our Trust will lead by example and we will humbly follow the calling and leadership of Christ. The school, each class and our prayer group have reflected upon this and how we can serve those in need.
On all of our class doors we have thought of ways we can serve our each other and our local communities:
The Door of Serving-
- Nursery and Reception – Serve each other in love
- Year 1 and 2 – Serve the hungry
- Year 3 and 4 – Sick and elderly
- Year 5 and 6 – Serve the homeless
Please also see below a timetable to see some ways we plan to act in service this year.
